Garden History

The P.I.N.K House is an after-school and summer learning program in the Ardmore neighborhood, West of the Ashley River. This garden now enters its eighth year. Each spring it evolves into something new. It has been a mini-farm and a mini-city (complete with "streets" through the rows of planters bearing names that the kids made up). It has been part maze and part hideaway, a place of hard work pulling weeds and excitement digging up sweet potatoes. In the garden children have discovered how to make snap-dragon puppets and tasted different ways of making food from all the things growing around them. The garden has been enriched by a continuing mix of ideas from the PINK HOUSE staff and our Garden Leaders and volunteers. Many learning activities that have become favorites in our other gardens were first experienced here.
